M.Sc. in Environmental Management and Sustainability Science

Environmental policies have been transformed dramatically over the last two decades. State regulation and policy-making have increasingly moved away from command and control strategies towards more decentralised and informal negotiations and the use of a number of economic approaches and instruments, thus making environmental policy more market-oriented. The environmental movement has also been transformed from a broad protest movement into more diversified and specialised organisations. On an international level, processes of globalization have served to change the role of the state in environmental policy-making, which has led to the creation of a number of new transnational policy forums and political arenas.

These transformations in a world of growing environmental stress and social inequalities create other roles and responsibilities for business, authorities and civil society in the quest for sustainable production and consumption, and sustainable management of resources. New demands are placed on managers and government officials and new capacities are needed among engineers and other environmental professionals.

The MSc programme in Environmental Management & Sustainability Science at Aalborg University offers education for science and engineering students, and is designed to meet these new challenges, by integrating inputs from the social and human sciences into the study of planning and engineering. The focus is on how firms, governments and other organisations can support sustainable development in an economically efficient and socially acceptable manner.

If you are a prospective student seeking broader information about the programme, admission requirements etc., please see the Environmental Management website.
